A bit about Jorge Garza
What do you find most fascinating/challenging about the O&G industry?
What fascinates me most about the oil and gas industry is how critical it is to everyday life while constantly evolving. The challenges are real, from harsh operating environments to ever changing regulations and performance demands, but that is also what makes it exciting. It is an industry that rewards problem solving, collaboration, and people who are willing to adapt and innovate.

What is your hobby and why?
One of my hobbies is collecting Magic the Gathering and Pokemon cards. I enjoy the strategy, history, and community behind both, and it has been fun revisiting something I loved growing up while also discovering how much depth there really is. I have also recently started playing golf, which has quickly become addicting. It is a great mix of challenge, patience, and time spent outdoors with friends and colleagues.

Have you had a mentor in the industry, and what valuable lesson or catchphrase has that person passed to you?
I have been fortunate to have several mentors throughout my career, but I would like to highlight Jim Briggs for his mentorship over the last few months. The lessons that stand out most are staying professional even when competitors are not, asking questions even when you think you know the answers, and seeking different perspectives because the truth often lies in the middle. He has also emphasized staying organized, making lists, and continuously working to improve yourself both professionally and personally.

What do you enjoy most about your job, and what advice do you have for others?
What I enjoy most is working with people to solve problems and build long term partnerships. No two days are the same, and every challenge is an opportunity to learn something new. My advice to others is to stay curious, listen more than you talk, and never underestimate the value of strong relationships.

How long have you been with EPG, and what brings you back year after year?
I joined EPG a couple of months ago, and one of the things that immediately stood out to me is the organization’s focus on giving back, especially through scholarships that support students entering the industry. I also appreciate how EPG brings people together to share ideas and collaborate with the goal of strengthening the industry as a whole. That commitment to education, collaboration, and long term improvement of the sector is what really drew me in.
