A bit about Matt Torosian
What do you find most fascinating/ challenging about the O&G industry?
The complexities of the application requirements is the most fascinating thing to me. Being in the materials business from both and engineering and business development standpoint for over 35 years, the challenging applications and processes to achieve those requirements has always peaked my interest.

What is your hobby and why?
I play ice hockey 2-3 times a week with many that are much younger than me. I love it because it is a great full body workout and I have to be fully engaged. It also has a robust and tight knit community from the locker room to the apre skate experience.  I guess you can say it is a healthy escape. I plan to play for as long as possible with a goal of getting past my 80th birthday, or longer.

Have you had a mentor in the industry, and what valuable lesson/catch phrase has that person passed to you?
Pierre DeLaFosse once told me, if I have anything left when I die, it is strictly because I miscalculated. Words to live by from my first mentor and Chevron Chemical. Pierre was a great mentor for my first 5 years in industry as a Technical Service Engineer right out of school. He we hard on me at times but always counseled me to think objectively to solve problems and be, the best person that I can be. He is in his 90's and I speak to him 3-4 times a year.

What do you enjoy most about your job, and what advice to you have for others?
I enjoy the connections and people coupled with the technology and technical learnings that make the job fun and stimulating from an interpersonal and intellectual levels! The advice I have for other is that no matter what the job, learn to embrace it and enjoy it! In will never feel like a job if you can maintain that perspective!

How long have you been with EPG, and what brings you back year after year?
I have been a member on and off for 12 years but I did have a gap in there of several years. I think I have been a member for around 5 years total during that time frame. What brings me back is the people and the information presented is incredibly valuable. Networking in the industry is also near the top of the list. After all, we have to pay the bills!
