What do you find most fascinating/ challenging about the O&G industry?
The most challenging aspect of the Oil & Gas industry is the push to leverage technological advancements and innovation to boost productivity. Additionally, Oil & Gas represents just one segment of our energy sources. As we strive to find more efficient methods to convert solar, wind, and nuclear energy into safe and reliable sources, we encounter more questions than answers.
What is your hobby and why?
My hobby is mentoring young people. Growing up, I felt isolated because my parents weren’t involved in my sports activities. Kids whose parents were friends with the coaches often received preferential treatment. As a coach, I ensured that every position was earned based on performance, not relationships. This commitment to fairness drives my passion for mentoring. I aim to expose, support, and nurture young people based on their talents and determination.
Have you had a mentor in the industry and what valuable lesson / catch phrase has that person passed to you.
My industry mentors are Neil Mendes and Steve Jagels. I will not say which one stated this but I love the concept. “Sometime you have to shoot a hostage” .
Which means, holding people accountable for their commitments is crucial. Without accountability, the organization can face significant challenges, including decreased productivity and morale. Ensuring everyone fulfils their responsibilities helps maintain a healthy, efficient, and fair work environment.
What do you enjoy most about your job and what advice to you have for others?
I enjoy exploring innovations and inventions within the industry. Those who learn first and then ask “why” are best positioned to advance our field. It’s important to question everything while distinguishing between facts and mere factoids.
How long have you been with EPG and what brings you back year after year?
I joined the Energy Rubber Group in 2013 and was immediately captivated by the sense of unity. Influential figures like Don Parsons and Edmee Files played a crucial role in strengthening my bond with the Energy Polymer Group. Today, the ability to reach out to anyone within the organization for open discussions about the industry and its needs is invaluable.

What do you find most fascinating/ challenging about the O&G industry?
I sell compression and injection molding machinery for Pan Stone Precision Industries in Taiwan. I have a different perspective on the climate of the oil and gas industry. Seeing as how I have only been in the rubber industry for under 2 years, I find it fascinating how many uses our machinery have in the industry. Differentiating rubber from my background of plastics has been the most challenging part.
What is your hobby and why?
I golf. I find it relaxing and challenging. It’s a great way to entertain clients and an even better way for me to forget about life for a while and have some fun. I typically golf with my dad and friends but I’m open to golf with anyone willing to have a good time on the course!
Have you had a mentor in the industry and what valuable lesson / catch phrase has that person passed to you.
My 2 mentors are my boss and our Midwest sales manager. They have taught me a lot about the industry as they have a combined 60 years of experience. The biggest piece of advice that they have given me is to stay patient. My background in plastics was high paced and everyone needed something NOW. The rubber industry has challenged my patience and my growth as a salesman.
